What is Baby/Child Dedication?
Baby dedication and child dedication are the act of giving back to God the gift he has given you as parents. It is an act of worship, thanksgiving, dependence, trust, and commitment. The practice of child dedication has been modeled throughout the Bible. For example, the Israelites brought their 8-day-old children to the priest for blessing. Hannah brought her long-awaited son Samuel to the priest Eli to dedicate him to the Lord (I Samuel 1:24-28). Mary and Joseph brought baby Jesus to the temple for his dedication (Luke 2:22).
We recognize that salvation only comes to a child through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It is not passed on to a child through a dedication ceremony. The ceremony is an opportunity for the parents, as well as the community of Eastpoint Church, to publically commit to raising their children through Godly principles and Christ-like modeling. This is done with the desire that one day their children will receive Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.
Is dedication the same as infant
baptism or christening?
Child dedication is different from infant baptism or christening. While these rites are significant for a variety of faiths, it is the practice of Eastpoint Church to dedicate children.
We at Eastpoint Church believe that all infants are destined for heaven should they die before they are old enough to enter into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We also believe the Bible teaches that baptism should take place after a person has made a personal choice to follow Jesus Christ.
When & Where is Baby & Child
Child dedications are scheduled periodically throughout the year as part the weekend service (9am or 10:45am). The dedication takes place on stage through a short presentation and prayer officiated by a staff pastor. Typically, the child’s immediate family is on stage.
You must register for upcoming dedications on this page. To secure the date you choose to have your child(ren) dedicated, you must sign up by the Wednesday before the date you choose. You will be contacted with confirmation of your date and service time. If you do not hear from us within 24 hrs. of signing up, please contact the church office at (509) 533-6800. The morning of the dedication, 15 minutes prior to service, you will check in at the Guest Information Table in the lobby adjacent to the Main Auditorium . After covering a few simple details a host will escort you to reserved seats close to the stage.
On the day of the dedication, what if I do not check in before the service?
Checking in is a required part of the dedication process. If missed, the dedication will not take place. Please plan accordingly to arrive early or on time.
